Students are twice more likely to attempt suicide if they are cyber bullied.

Suicide rates for teens (15–19yrs) between 2000 and 2017 rose by 47% due to cyber bullying.

Victims of cyber bullying and bullying can suffer from depression, have academic difficulties, and think about or attempt suicide.

With over 60% of students who experienced cyberbullying reporting that it impacted their ability to feel safe & learn in school, and in light of the Facebook whistle blower who suggested that platforms such as Instagram is harmful to teenagers, it brings to question what can be done to stop these actions and to help the people facing these challenges.

Like superheroes and vigilantes in various cinematic universes, an anonymous ex-marine who works with twenty of the best cyber security experts, called ‘The Great Londini’ (with 4.4M followers) formed a page on Tiktok, Twitter and Youtube to put an end to cyber bullying, one troll at a time.

With his tagline, “Stupid game, Stupid Prize” this masked crusader scours the internet, with his team, for trolls who “anonymously” cyberbully online and forwards those videos to the respective authorities that need to be involved. For children, parents are involved, whereas for adults, local authorities are alerted.

This Anti-Bullying Awareness month, I want to propose a segment that will shine a light on the effects of bullying and cyber bullying that lead to many lives lost annually, while also discussing the necessary steps that can be taken to protect children that are currently facing such challenges.

I believe that this will be a timely and relevant segment which will feature an interview with ‘The Great Londini’ on the effectiveness of their mission and where they see themselves growing from here. It will further investigate the regulations that social media platforms can implement to make their platforms safer and steps that parents can take to ensure that their children can open up to them about such matters.

I am a Journalism Major with previous experience in Dentsu’s WATConsult. As a Sr. Digital Marketer, my role involved vetting response management for negative comments that kept appearing for the brand, copy writing, content & brand strategy, and more. Having to constantly keep up with the news to create relevant content for my brands is what drew me to come back to the field. In addition to this, I was a part of the mentorship program with TheCitizen.in that is aimed at developing skills in news gathering and feature writing.

Thank you for your time and consideration.
